From the Pastor's Pen... December, 2008 Junk or Jewels for Jesus Oh how wonderful the gifts of God are! James 1:17 tells us that..." Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights..." Indeed, every gift of God is good! God doesn't give junk. God doesn't give leftovers. God doesn't give seconds. God doesn't give old, wore out, unusable items. God has always, and will always, ever only, give of His very best! So should the Christian ever only give of their best to HIM! Sadly though, for many of the recipients of God's good gifts, this is not the case. Many Christians are guilty of giving Junk to Jesus. I'm talking about giving God anything less than your very best. It's withholding from God, according to your ability, the first fruits of your time, talent, and treasure. It's giving to your church, missionaries, and special needs, in the name of Jesus Christ, the leftovers of what you possess. This my friends, is an abomination in my opinion. I grew up in a Pastor/Missionary home and saw first hand for years the "junk" that people gave to the work and servants of the Lord. Used tea bags and sheets with holes in them given to missionaries by people who COULD have given better. Broken furniture, wore out clothes, and appliances that didn't work left on church doorsteps as those same people lived in luxury in their own homes. What a disgusting display of greedy covetousness as well as a gross lack of appreciation for how God gives to us! Sometimes though, junk for Jesus can actually have monetary value but if given with the wrong motive still remains junk. At the same time, something of little monetary value given with the right motive is considered jewels for Jesus. Read the account of the widow that gave two mites along side the rich giving their gold found in Mark 12:41-44. For His Glory Only, Pastor Dave
